S.A.Robotics secures strategic project on Sellafield – S.A.Robotics has secured a contract to integrate technology centered on the deployment of its Powered Remote Manipulator (PRM). The project will cut out and seal a derogated pipe and remove contamination seeking to substantially reduce dose within the surrounding area.


S.A.Robotics wins place on Sellafield DFA 2 Team – S.A.Robotics has secured a position on the Nuvia team and looks forward to delivering remote handling capabilities to Sellafield through this vehicle.

Trawafynydd Rotary Deployment Arm

S.A.Robotics Ltd. designed, manufactured, and tested the Trawsfynydd Rotary Deployment Arm (RDA). This device is a long-reach, telescopic manipulator designed to remove inventory and clean tanks associated with Resin Vault 2 (RV2), Resin Vault 3 (RV3), Main Sludge Vault (MSV), and Pond North Voids (PNV) located at the Trawsfynydd decommissioning site. The RDA will be deployed and used in the tanks/void which contain various waste forms including ion exchange resin, sludge, effluent, and other products.

S.A.Robotics Ltd. provided engineering and design services to the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) for the Windscale Piles 1 and 2 decontamination and demolition (D&D) projects. A multi-disciplined team was assembled to perform decommissioning planning analyses, develop technical approach, evaluate regulatory restrictions and requirements, determine safety case implications, identify industrial safety concerns, identify any radiation protection measures, establish engineering controls, perform structural engineering analyses, and provide project management.

S.A. Robotics.Ltd assisted with the technical strategy to develop decommissioning activities and associated technology requirements to be carried out at the UKAEA Dounreay site in Scotland. The Dounreay Strategic Review Team (DSRT) performed a strategic review of Dounreay’s Life Time Plan (LTP) between May and November 2007. S.A. Robotics Ltd., provided technical D&D experience and expertise to produce schedule assessments dealing with the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). Key objectives were to identify any significant gaps and omissions in the sites current LTP, identify opportunities for optimization of cost and schedule, and finally highlight areas for further investigation and/or research.

S.A.Technology provided a Pipe Cropping Manipulator (PCM) to remotely cut riser pipes inside two 1000 m3 Bulk Storage Tanks (BSTs) in the British Nuclear Group’s Sellafield Ion eXchange Effluent Processing (SIXEP) facility. The PCM included a telescoping mast, Ultra High Pressure (UHP) Cutting Heads, pneumatic supply, video capability, simple joystick control panel, and associated software.
